Right from the start, Angus MacBain and the Agate Eyeglass was adventure-packed. There were points at the beginning were I got confused due to the lack of back story but somehow I was able to understand some things later on. Still, I believe it would be best to get a read of the first book since the characters seem to keep on referring to their previous adventure.
I think Angus MacBain is more middle grade than young adult though. The characters were adorable but I found Vanora a little too childish for a young adult and also annoying when she talks. Still, I would recommend this great read of a book. I hope to get to read the first in the series in the future, too.
